Saturday we went to the Renaissance Festival - it was awesome! We left really early to avoid the massive traffic jams and we got a great parking spot. Kara, Josh, and Freya met us there - and we all wore costumes.
In the elevator at the hotel - a modern Viking with a Switch and some waterproof hiking shoes.
Showing off with Freya before we walked to the gate to get in.
The castle is cool...but I was tired of waiting for the gate to open.
Mom and Kara.
It was so exciting to see it all!
Freya and I got a taxi ride.
Freya and Kara threw some spears.
Princess Mom.
Throwing darts (you can see it in the upper right of the picture).
On a pirate ship swing (pull the rope to make it go).
At the jousting grounds - this guy was funny.
This guy was funny, too.
Attacking the cabbage!
Putting the lance through a two-inch ring.
Learning how to fire a crossbow.
I got some decent shots off.
Practicing my shield work.
And practicing my axe work.
Dad was a Viking, too.
The guy who made this shield had the same design tattooed on his head!
Talking archery with another Viking.
Princess Mom, just before she traded her crown to one of the Vikings for a necklace.
Back at the jousting grounds for some actual jousting this time.
They did this five times!
Under the helmet is the guy who did most of the talking at the first show we saw.
My new shield, with the guy who painted it (I also got a hammer and a sword).
And that was my first trip to the Renaissance Festival. We tried to go to a giant candy store on the way home but it was so crowded we could barely get through the door, and we basically turned around and left right after we got in.
We went back to Freya's for a while, but we were all very tired and ready to get some sleep before the next adventure.
